Takeshima is Japanese territory (Asahi Shimbun)
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Protest to South Korea
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited Ambassador Yu of the South Korean delegation in Japan to the Ministry on the morning of the 25th, and issued the following protest on the Takeshima territorial dispute by hand-delivered Note Verbale. This was in response to a protest received from the South Korean side after a patrol boat of the Maritime Safety Agency approached Takeshima on the 18th last.
In historical fact, legal fact and the terms of the Peace Treaty, Takeshima is clearly part of Japan's territory. We have already issued strong protests about the occupation by officers of the Republic of Korea, but it is our right under international law to make occasional patrols of the Japanese territory of Takeshima and to take the necessary measures, and the Republic of Korea has no justifiable grounds for protest in this connection.
